Vampires! Grief Vampires!
How to Spot a "Grief Vampire"
Thank you for your interest in seeing one of the subtle scams siphoning energy away from causes that matter. If you've ever bought an article of clothing to show your support for a movement, you've done so with the belief that your purchase helps. In many cases, it does. Legitimate charities often partner with companies to create merchandise that raises both funds and awareness.
Actual “Grief Vampire” at work. Likely a bot.
However, a growing number of predatory companies exist only to prey on that goodwill. They steal resources from legitimate causes and exploit the trust of supporters. These "grief vampires" should be held accountable, and this guide will teach you how to spot them.
If you’re asking about who’s writing this, well that’s all back on the website. There are some other articles to consider if you’d like to go deeper.

The Tactic: The Anonymous "Drop-Ship" Storefront
The most common tactic used by these predatory companies is a business model called "drop-shipping." Here’s how it works:
They create a professional-looking online storefront (like Spoofyprint).
They fill it with generic, mass-produced items (t-shirts, mugs, etc.) from a third-party printer, often overseas.
They use powerful, emotional language and symbols related to a cause (like suicide prevention) to market these items.
When you place an order, they simply forward that order to the cheap, third-party printer, who ships the item directly to you.
The storefront itself has no inventory, no physical address, and no real employees. It is a ghost. This allows them to operate with zero accountability.
Another example of a grief vampire in action. They will always tag @everyone and only respond to comments with more adds, if they respond at all.
Red Flags: How to Spot a "Grief Vampire"
Before you buy, run through this simple checklist. The more red flags you see, the more likely you are dealing with a scam.
No Physical Address: Can you find a real, verifiable U.S. address on their website? If you ask their customer service for an address to send a letter to and they refuse or deflect, that is the biggest red flag.
No Connection to a Real Charity: Does the product page explicitly name a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit partner? Do they state what percentage of the proceeds goes to that charity? If not, it's likely that zero dollars are going to the cause.
Vague "About Us" Page: A legitimate business is proud of its story. A scam storefront will have a generic, AI-written "About Us" page with no names, no faces, and no real history.
Evasive Customer Service: Do they only offer a contact form or a generic email address? A real business will have a phone number or a clear way to escalate an issue.
The Alternative: How Legitimate Charities Operate
It's important to note that many legitimate charities also use fulfillment partners to create and ship merchandise. This is a smart way to avoid the overhead of managing inventory. The key difference is transparency.
A real charity will be proud of their partnerships and will clearly state who their printing partners are.
They will have a verifiable address and a team of real people you can contact.
Most importantly, 100% of the net proceeds from their store go directly back into their mission.
Thank You for Seeking the Truth
Thank you for taking the time to see the truth behind the "good deed." The fight for causes like suicide prevention is too important to let its energy be stolen by predators. By making informed choices, you are directly helping to protect and strengthen the movements you care about. If you came here because of one of my warnings in a social media group, we have several featured in the “safe spaces” section of the website we highly recommend.
The reason we are so passionate about this is because our fight is deeply personal. If you would like to learn more about our son, Julian, and the work we are doing to turn our family's tragedy into a movement for change, we invite you to explore the rest of our website.
Love above All,
The Honoring Julian Team
